The Staff Selection Commission, also known as SSC, has apologized for the question in a paper that asked candidates to pick the tallest actress of Bollywood and offered four choices for answers.

SSC runs the exam that recruits candidates for government department and different central ministries. This year, one question just talked of the actress who is the tallest in Bollywood.

A report in NDTV published on July 21, 2014 has quoted A Bhattacharya, who is the currently the SSC chairman, “It is improper, abominable, substandard… we are very upset and deeply sorry.”

On the other hand, Women’s Commission in Kerala has asked for an explanation for the question, which according to most quarters is a “gender insensitive” one.

The particular question regarding Bollywood was the question number 92, following which a question on the month of Valentine’s Day was given. The question had four choices, namely Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Huma Qureshi, and Preity Zinta.

That’s not all! The SSC paper has a section on deductive reasoning, where there was a statement that stated, “All women are cats, All cats are rats.” Many questions were raised on the same, as well.

Under fire, Mr Bhattacharya said that the papers were set by local teachers and a panel of experts, who had checked to see the final paper. No one from the SSC had set the paper.

Giving nod to the demands of Women’s Commission, SSC has now decided and agree not to include those two questions in debate for the purposes of evaluation.
