Last of the Nexuses? HTC Volantis Could be Nexus Swan Song

June 23, 2014, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Are you ready for the next Nexus? Going by the grapevine buzz, chances are that you would get to play with one more Nexus slate. One more we say because, we hear the next one is going to be the last of the lot as Google is looking to discontinue the Nexus program.

So what we have here is the next Nexus being made for Google by HTC.  In the pipeline is a tablet with an 8.9-inch screen of 2,048×1,440 resolution and a 281 ppi and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The size of the display looks to have taken off from the recent Apple and Amazon launches and looks to rival them.

We hear the slate might be called Volantis. The 7.9mm thick slate weighing 418g comes with an aluminium bezel and a Nexus logo firmly on the rear.

The device would come boasting a Tegra K1 processor and 2 GM of RAM in the storage department.  The imaging front sports a 3 megapixel sapper on the front  and an 8 megapixel camera on the rear. It also comes with front-facing stereo speakers.

These are the specs that are being talked about at the moment. We are sure the HTC Nexus Volantis could have more at launch.

Likely to roll out during the fourth quarter of this year, the Volantis could come powered by the next version of Android OS.

Rumor mills have also started speculating on the pricing details too. So from what they have been churning out, the Volantis 16GB variant could be yours for $399, while the 32GB model could sell for $499. You might have to spend a bit more to own the LTE version Volantis.
