First Ever Scent-Based Mobile Messaging Platform is Here; Tag Photos with 300,000 Scents with oSnap

How do you tag pictures with a scent of your choice? The question itself might seem bizarre, but in reality it isn’t. If you are still not willing to be convinced, let’s tell you about a technology company that goes by the name Vapor Communications and its bid to infuse fragrances into your personalized messages.

What the company is currently into is something very unique. Vapor has in fact announced the launch of  a new iPhone application that allows you to tag photographs with over 300,000 unique scents and also deliver them as messages.

Called oSnap, the company’s venture that tags pictures with scents, is a first in the tech terrain. These scent tagged images are called oNotes and they can be electronically sent and received via email, Facebook, and Twitter in select hotspots that have the oPhone, the hardware that emits the scent.

The app has been made available for download at the Apple App Store and it is absolutely free. The oSnap actually allows users to boast of the ability to snap a photograph and tag any object in the photograph with scent compositions.

You might be wondering how to pick the scents, right?  You can actually create them by dropping along a scrolling window that offers up to 32 unique scents. You will be able to choose from one to eight, resulting in over 300,000 combinations.

All you need to do after picking your combo is to name the scent-tagged image and send it electronically to friends. Once an oNote is received, you can tap the oNote icon and be directed to, where the person you sent the images can see the image and associated scents.

The company has said that if users have an iPhone in Bluetooth proximity to an oPhone, they will be able to download their aromatic message and smell the scents.

According to David Edwards, founder and CEO of Vapor Communications, “oPhone introduces a new kind of sensory experience into mobile messaging – a form of communication that until now has remained consigned to our immediate local experience of the world… With the oPhone, people will be able to share with anyone, anywhere, not just words, images, and sounds, but sensory experience itself.”

Part of an Indiegogo campaign, the first commercial oPhones have been made available for pre-sale to be produced and delivered in early 2015 for a retail price of $149 (a 25% discount on ultimate sale price of the oPhone of $199). The campaign will run till July 31.  You may want to find how social oSnap by heading here and here.
