Hyundai Motor India Ltd launched its much awaited model Xcent on March 12th in Delhi, making its way in the current favorite consumer category of sub-4 meter sedan. Designed and based on the tested platform of Grand i10, Xcent will be available for an ex-showroom (Delhi) price of Rs 4.66 lakh.

Hyundai is the second largest car maker in India, and with Xcent, it will try to take on the category where Maruti Suzuki Dzire is currently ruling, followed by Honda Amaze. On the special event held in Delhi, the MD & CEO of the company said that the design, quality and space along with the features will make Xcent a new standard, which has been developed in line with the needs of Indian families.

Rakesh Srivastava, the senior vice-president of HMIL, talked of the figures saying that in spite of negative auto sector growth in the country in 2013, the compact sedan segment has increased by more than 25%, which will be further accelerated by Xcent.

With a decline in its sales by 1.2% for the year 2013, Xcent is a new hope for HMIL.

The newly launched Xcent will have two variants, one that will be powered by 1.2 litre petrol offering a good mileage of 19.1 kmpl, while the other will have 1.1 litre diesel, which will return a mileage of 24.4 kmpl. Other features of the mode will include rear parking camera, glove box cooling, dual airbags, and AC vents for the rear.

With the price at Rs 4.66 lakh, Xcent is slightly cheaper than Maruti’s Dzire, which starts from Rs 4.85 lakh.
