McLaren to Get Rid of Windshield Wipers Soon

December 19, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Windshield wipers are a necessity today, but McLaren, the Formula One racing team, is soon to set to make cars which will come without these wipers.

McLaren produces performance sport cars and Frank Stephenson, the chief designer, has come up with something new to replace wipers.

What the folks at the company plan to do is to use ultrasound to send 30kHz across the windshield to keep it free from any kind of debris.

When we say debris, we mean even insect remains that come in your view. Such would bethe perfection, folks.

The ultrasound feature would help create a force that will thereby prevent snow, rain or any debris from reaching the windshield and getting stuck on to it. Thus it would be ensured that the glass always remains clear.

This, of course, means a hassle free drive to the driver. This is also supposedly fuel saving, though in small amounts as the wiper apparatus won’t interfere with the airflow. It could also prevent people from putting flyers under your wiper blades!

If all goes well, many car manufacturers are likely to take license from McLaren to use this technology. But yes, the prices will go up.

Are you ready?
