Archos Platinum Slates: Friendly Price Tags; Performance-Oriented Specs Too

October 14, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The tablet terrain isn’t what it used to be. Many a maker have brought in a variety of slates with each of them vying with one another to offer something different.

With Samsung’s Galaxy line and Apple’s iPad variants ruling the horizon, other manufacturers seem to have been left in the sidelines for too long.

But as if to gain at least a small share in the ever expanding market, where customers aren’t shy about trying whatever comes their way, other makers too have thrown in their might to reap a share of the dividend.

One name that cannot be swept aside could be Archos. The French electronics hardware maker is,as  of late, gearing up to show what all it can do in the slate market.

The company has lined up not one but three affordable tablets, in three display sizes.

The three tablets that Archos has been showing off are, by all means, really good options for people looking for mid range devices at budget level prices.

All the three models run the latest version of Android – Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. Powered by 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor, capable of doing all tasks without much time lag, these variants hide within themselves 8GB internal memory as well as microSD card slot for expansion of memory in case you need more.

Other common features include a mini-HDMI port, microUSB port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The tablets provide good connectivity options via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The smallest device of the three, 80b Platinum, sports 1GB RAM. Meanwhile, the other two variants feature 2GB RAM each.

The 80b Platinum features an 8-inch 1024 x 768 pixel screen, while the 101 platinum has a big 10.1 inch screen of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Meanwhile, the 97b Platinum comes with a 9.7 inch display of a high resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

Archos knows it has to dole out wallet friendly stuff if it is to poke its nose into the crowded market place and establish a presence there. And so the three devices offer welcome tags.

Apart from the not so bad features and specs, the three devices come with affordability as their main attraction.

The 80b Platinum will hit the market with a comparatively cheap price tag of $199.99. Meanwhile, the 9.7 inch model sports a price tag that reads $269.99 and the bigger model could be yours for $299.99.

If these pricing details and specs make you feel they are worthy of a buy, we don’t think anything should stop you from going for them.

By the way, tell us if you are going for one of these or would you prefer having all the three of them, for yourself and as gifts for the family!
