We have seen many waterproof phones over the past few years, and played with them too.

As if in a bid to add some more spice to the terrain, Kyocera has brought forth its new Hydro Elite water proof model that can be immersed in 1 meter of water for almost half an hour without affecting the working of the handset.

This inexpensive compact handset comes with a handful of features that make it one of the best choices to buy at a budget level price.

The handset comes with a $49.99 price tag on a Verizon contract. The device comes with dimensions of 4.82 x 2.38 x 0.43 inches and weighs 4.51 ounces. Some notable features including wireless charging and an expandable memory make it something you could crave.

The Hydro Elite has the most modern looks compared to earlier handsets from the Japanese manufacturer. We have a feeling that the Hydro Elite resembles the iPhone 4 in the looks department.

The camera of the device is worth noting. It comes with an 8 megapixel primary camera, which you can use to shoot even high def videos. The device also features a 1.3 megapixel secondary snapper for video calling. The LED flash helps you take pictures even in the absence of daylight.

The handset is loaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, and comes preloaded with popular apps such as Chrome, Gmail, Messenger, Search, Talk and YouTube. Access to Google Play store is also included.

The device also boasts Verizon apps like My Verizon Mobile, Verizon Tones music and media store. Meanwhile, task management apps like alarm clock, calculator, calendar, video editor, audio recorder, voice dialer, two weather apps and a native email client are present in the handset. Facebook, NFL mobile and a gaming portal are also included.

The matte-finish at the bottom half of the back panel gives it aesthetically good looks as well as fingerprint-free handling and good hold. The 4.3 inch HD touch screen has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which enables the user to play high quality videos.

The expandable memory can be expanded up to 32 GB. The device has a powerful 2100 mAh battery. Wireless charging feature is also available in Hydro Elite.

The device features Bluetooth 4.0, 16 GB in built memory and 1.5 GB of RAM, and comes powered by a 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor.

The call quality of the device however comes as a major drawback. Another point critics point out is the sluggish internal speeds. These are the negatives we could find, there is no more.

We can’t expect a super handset for a cheap price, right? But here is one that is cheap and performance oriented. Look out for its arrival at retail outlets.
