Facebook Stepping Up Mobile Games Publishing Plan

You have done almost anything under the sun with your Facebook account, right? Things have taken a glorious turn of late, and now the social media giant is taking a plunge into the mobile games arena.

The social networking major, in fact, unveiled its new mobile games publishing initiative at its Casual Connect conference in San Francisco some time back. The new initiative reveals the company’s plan to take a role as a publisher of games.

In Facebook brass’ own words, the venture into mobile gaming is a new pilot program to help small and medium sized developers to take their mobile games globally.


The company is looking forward to its 800 plus million monthly users for popularizing mobile apps and expects more than 260 million people to play game on the site.

Facebook is actually aiming to increase its revenue with this vital move , which would provide them with a fixed percentage of profit from the game makers.

Research analyst Greg Sterling has been quoted as saying that the new move is a great opportunity for the game developers and publishers and a good opportunity for Facebook to increase revenue. Games had helped the company to increase its payment revenue for the second quarter of the year to 11% compared with the same period a year ago.

There are many who think that the new decision by Facebook will adversely affect Zynga’s online gaming business. Let’s watch how things progress.
