July 24, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

German Car behemoth Mercedes-Benz is adopting a nine speed automatic transmission for its E class model, christened E350 Bluetech. The model with a new 9-speed gearbox has already seen wraps go off it in Europe.

The new gearbox has been designed and built in house. The new 9-speed transmission replaces the previously used 7G-Tronic type, and the extra gears yield significant improvement in fuel economy.

While the acceleration of the diesel powered model remains unchanged at 60 miles per hour, the fuel economy in city cycle has improved significantly than the previous versions.

Though the option is not yet available in the US, Mercedes has confirmed that the new 9G – Tronic will be introduced state side without much delay. However, the company hasn’t offered any time schedule on its US arrival.

Let’s wait to see one of those beauties with the new nine-speed magic to come on to North American shores.
