Amazon Introduces Facebook Service for Birthday Gifts

June 20, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Amazon has launched a new feature named Amazon Birthday Gift for Facebook users that enables users to purchase Amazon.com gift cards in Facebook.

The company also, thereby, allows customers to purchase gift cards for as low as $1 and you can even invite your friends to donate money for the gift purchases.

And when a birthday arrives, the recipient will receive the gift card along with greetings from all the contributors.

This is not the first time Amazon is participating with social network giant Facebook in such an initiative. In December last, Amazon had introduced a Friends and Family Gifting feature just ahead of the holiday season.

It allowed users to generate Facebook-enabled gift suggestions, send out reminders, and share gift ideas through emails and social networks.

In 2011, Amazon’s online competitor Walmart too had launched a Facebook-based gift recommendation service.

Last year, Facebook had also rolled out its Gift Service that enables users to add a gift along with their birthday wishes. The social network also introduced its branded Facebook Card that allows purchase of real time gifts for friends and family members.

However, instead all these efforts by online retailers and Facebook, gifts services are still struggling to generate revenue. Hope a new strategy could be charted out without delay.
