Xiaomi Red Rice Big Display Smartphone Leaks; Launch Likely in October for $130

May 13, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Xiaomi is a household name in China for its pretty smartphones at budget price. Their MIUI-based handsets usually follow Apple-like design structure, but the comparison stops there.

As if to make the market sit up and take notice with added enthusiasm, the company seems to be prepping a device it never had in its thoughts before.

Or that is what the leaks suggest.

They are hinting that Xiaomi is aiming at a bigger smartphone, and could name it Xiaomi Red.

As like many other handsets from Xiaomi, the Red Rice too will be a budget smartphone with a price tag of $130.

If rumors about the price are indeed true, then the handset would be much cheaper than the recently announced Xiaomi Mi2A. So that means, you get a big phone for a small price!

The Red Rice will be named after its red polycarbonate shell, but we expect that at the time of launch Xiaomi will come up with a more traditional name.

The handset is supposed to have dual-SIM feature and will feature a massive 4.7-inch 720p HD display. It features a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM along with a 2,000 mAh battery.

Also, it will have an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front shooter for video calling. The Red Rice is expected to release in October 2013.

However, there’s no word about its official launch in other markets including the US.

But we would definitely wish to see this budget friendly smartphone come to us too. Wouldn’t you too want it?
