Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection Can’t Make it into Xbox 360

Gamers, strap on your gear and load up your ammunition. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection will be jogging into PS3 later this year.

The Legacy Collection will contain a total of eight MGS games in one bundle, thus being labeled as the ultimate collection of the series to date, as well as the ultimate collection to have by a fan. The interesting point to note here is that only PS 3 would be getting the honors.

Xbox 360 is being completely ignored, so those hordes of MGS fans who spent their time with Xbox 360s won’t be getting any MGS action. But don’t get me wrong though.

It’s not that the creators don’t want the game on Xbox. It’s just that they are not able to deliver it to the console.

The major hurdle in their way is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This game requires a Blu-ray to accommodate all the data, and only PS 3 can take in Blu-ray.

According to folks at, Microsoft’s console doesn’t have that option and the creators would have to spread it across DVDs. Multiple DVDs, evidently, aren’t worth the effort put and also the production costs for these DVDs for the 360 would be high.

Since the upcoming next generation Xbox might get a Blu-ray drive, Kojima said that the collection may get a re-release on the console. If you are an Xbox player and can’t wait for the collection to come out until the new console hits the market, then you should probably get a PS 3 for this one.

The collection includes:

  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Also included are a couple of graphic novels created by Ashley Wood. The package would see light first in Japan, sometime in June, and then would land in the western countries soon after.
