LG First Ever Smartphone with Flexible Display Technology Coming this Year

LG has announced its plans to launch the flexible OLED display smartphone during Q4 of this year. When it happens, it will be the first flexible smartphone to hit the mobile market.

This is indeed not the first time we hear about the flexible smartphones, though.

Back at the 2008 SID Conference, LG had revealed a prototype of its flexible display. Then, flexible displays were meant to be for wrist mounted smart devices and many other applications.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the flexible OLED display is said to come curved and shatter proof. This display technology could enhance many features in smartphone technology and also be useful in other forms of wearable tech. In smartphones, it will protect the handset from drop damages.

However, LG is not talking about an entirely flexible mobilephone. It will be just a smartphone with an interesting wraparound display. Yet, no tech manufacturer has managed to create such materials to make an entirely flexible handset.

Other manufacturers, of the likes of Google, Apple and Samsung, too are working on flexible screen technology. Looks like the future is of display technology, right?
