April 5, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Though Google Glass hasn’t seen sunlight as of yet, it has already been successful in bringing up a rival. Yes, Chinese search engine Baidu is bringing the Baidu eye that will pose a direct threat to the Google Glass.

It is said to have all the features of the Google Glass from voice recognition to bone-sensing. Will any patents make these companies sweat more? No one seems to think so. Baidu eye is said to be working with Qualcomm in bringing the device to commercial production.

Though Qualcomm spokesperson declined to give out any details, his statement, “We haven’t made any announcements on this, so I don’t have any information I can share” does have a clue that they will be making some sort of announcement in near future regarding this.

The Baidu eye is said to have about 12 hours of battery life and it is more than enough to make it sell highly in the ever growing Chinese markets.

Making phone calls, searching the Web and using the gestures to shoot and share photos are all that is found in Google Glass and the Baidu eye also have all these features. Considering the brands, the Baidu Eye will be less expensive once it rolls out.

Using an open platform, Baidu Eye is also making informal invitations to developers to start preparing for what is yet to come. Will this sabotage Google’s future plans? We will have to wait and see.
