Samsung Galaxy Note 3 May Come Without Stylus

March 18, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Samsung brought home the stylus with the Samsung Galaxy Note. We had the accessory following the phablet into the next-generation as well.

But now there are rumors that the stylus won’t be accompanying the next Galaxy Note phablet. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to do away with the stylus, instead opting for a technology that would replace the accessory.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was a huge hit, becoming the best cellphone of the year, and the electronics giant hopes to continue the winning streak with their next phablet.

So, why then are they, if true, removing the stylus? If Samsung is opting to remove the accessory, then that will be only because they have something better in their mind.

The company might introduce the technology whereby a mere hovering of the fingers over the screen would suffice to write, select and operate applications. That technology is already available (AirView).

While Sony uses a similar technology in Sola, it would be interesting to see how Samsung would tweak the technology for their product. But Samsung hasn’t revealed anything about the AirView taking the place of the stylus yet.

There are many questions left unanswered, like whether having fingertips hovering above the screen give accurate results and such. And there are also reports that say Samsung will retain the stylus in the upcoming phablet, along with the new technology, even if users won’t need it.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is expected to debut later this year, so time enough for more speculation!
