March 7, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Parrot – a developer of wireless devices, in-dash infotainment and hands-free systems for cars since 1994 – now has a whole range of products dedicated to the driving experience.

Parrot’s ‘Asteroid’ line of infotainment devices has four systems -Parrot Asteroid Mini, Parrot Asteroid Smart, Parrot Asteroid Classic and Parrot Asteroid tablet.

The standard Parrot Asteroid tablet has a 5-inch multi-touch display and is based on a skinned Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The company says the tablet has the most complete package of all infotainment utilities – integrating Bluetooth hands-free system with music connectivity, and the range of connected apps. However, users could face problems dealing with new apps incompatible on this older version.

The tablet automatically synchronizes with a phone’s address book and calls can be made with simple voice commands.

Music can be voice-searched and played merely by saying the name of the artist or the title of the album title. MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV, and OGG are the compatible audio formats. The wireless remote, Parrot UNIKA – which can be attached to the steering wheel, has dedicated buttons for easy access. Internet can be accessed via Wi-Fi tethering or through any of the 3G/4G USB dongles available in the market.

There is an Asteroid Market where you can download apps – Music On Demand and Driving Assistance are some that will become popular. Check out the video and tell us about it.
