Google Toils to Bring Awesome Cameras to Nexus Devices

February 20, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Did you know, Google will be rolling out insanely awesome cameras for its upcoming Nexus phones? Vic Gundotra, senior vice-president of engineering at Google, has promised via a Google+ post that the company will bring a bulky DSLR on an upcoming vacation to Lake Tahoe.

In the comments section, someone remarked that improved sensors in phones will eventually convince him to skip the DSLR. Another reader remarked that he hopes to someday just carry their future Nexus and they won’t have to worry about any heavy camera before asking Gundotra if that would ever be a possibility.

As a reply, Gundotra said Google is committed to making great cameras for the Nexus phones and one should just wait and see that happen.

It should come as no surprise that Google is working to improve the camera on its Nexus phones; it’s probably working to improve all the features on its devices. But a powerful camera would be a nice selling point.

In many reviews of the Nexus 4, analysts had found the smartphone’s camera to be mediocre. Video capture was also noted as a disappointment.

Gundotra didn’t go into more details; it was a response to a Google+ post rather than an official product announcement, after all.

But it will be quite nice to see something new from Google on the Nexus front at its annual I/O developer conference in May. Will future Nexus phones will have the greatest cameras? We just have to wait and see.
