Sony Might Add Dual Camera Eyetoy on PS4 to Take On Kinect

Rumour mills have been churning out so many products relating with the upcoming next generation PlayStation 4 and the latest tidbit suggests that Sony might include a dual camera eyetoy to make the PS4 a strong competitor for Kinect.

Dual Camera appears to be an evolutioned HD Eyetoy instead of a Kinect device, based on the features offered right now. It is rumored to contain a pair of wide-angle cameras in which each camera offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (720p).

So if this eyetoy is also there, the PS4 might create history by being the most powerful gaming console yet.

Related rumors suggest that the sound will be processed by a 4 microphone array working at 48 Khz. With the inclusion of this good quality camera and mic, the device can perform some non gaming tasks such as recognizing the user to login to the system and also enable the video chat facility.

In the gaming arena, it supports head and hand tracking as new game inputs. Currently it’s not clear if this device will support body tracking in the future as Kinect does now-a-days.

A spokesperson from Sony has already been quoted as saying that the main selling point of PS4 won’t be the rumored eight-core AMD64 CPU or other hardware specs, but how it opens up new styles of playing; something Nintendo has been focusing for the past few months.

But it doesn’t intend that there will be absence of high-end hardware specs. Sony is going to push the new console as a home entertainment nerve center with a focus on the hardware’s ability to connect and share to mobile devices.

So in effect, all of our hopes are high regarding the upcoming  PS4 and it might all come true in the coming months. Stay tuned.
