Apple iPad with 128GB Storage Capacity Releasing Next Week

No matter how much of storage memory we have, we are never satisfied. I remember the age when smartphones were in their infancy and when 250MB was a big thing, and expanding it to 512MB was a really huge deal.

Cut to the present and having 8GB and 16GB and 64GB is next to nothing. That’s why Apple is expanding its iPad boundary to include a 128GB slate.

The company announced that they will be releasing a new iPad with 128GB of storage space inside, and that there will be a WiFi as well as a WiFi + Cellular model. The colors, as usual, follow tradition and will be available in black or white.

We weren’t actually unprepared for this product, as there were enough rumors circulating around. But we didn’t expect to hear an official declaration so soon.

Apple’s move is targeted at professionals who need to use a device with high storage capacity on-the-go.

The company says that their high-capacity device would help designers, the recording industry and professional athletes who make use of software that requires a lot of space.

Philip Schiller, Apple SVP of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement said that customers love their iPads more than their PCs, and having sold 120 million iPads is testimony to that. “With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs,” he said.

Aside from targeting professionals, Apple would also be looking to increase their profits. They suffered a slight fall in the last quarter and having on shelves a device with high storage capacity would be a good way to make up.

Since flash memories devour cash as they run by, Apple would take in an extra $100 from users who need more storage than what is available in their 64GB iPad. The new 128GB iPad will be available in stores from February 5th onwards.

The WiFi model will be costing $700 while the Wi-Fi + Cellular will go for $929. Are you looking to increase space or content with your existing iPad?
