January 18, 2013, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It is quite well known that Japan has this habit of coming up with exclusively new and innovative products that others might not have even thought of. This time, it is a waterproof tablet that catches the headlines.

Geanee, as it is named, is a new waterproof wonder that launched in Japan recently. The device runs on Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich.

But that is not what makes it stand out. It is capable of staying underwater for 30 minutes.

The IPX7 rating proposes that it can be immersed in up to 1 meter of water within the time period mentioned. Things awaiting you under the bonnet are also not disappointing.

The new variant features a Boxchip A10 Cortex A8 processor (up to 1.5GHz), a Mail- 400 2D/3D OPEN GL GPU and 2160 VPU. These are complemented with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, WiFi connectivity, a 7-inch display at 800 × 480 resolution and HDMI out.

Geanee is now available in the market for about $170. A multitude of reasons can be cited for Japan’s predominance when it comes to brand new innovations like this.

The unique networks exclusive to the geographical location is just one. It may also be that the markets outside are not yet ready for different kinds of devices.

Let’s know your take on this. Stay tuned as we keep updating.
