GameStop Sells Refurbished Nintendo 3DS Filled with Porn Images for Christmas

Christmas is a time for Santa to visit with presents and gifts. But this year, the Santa from GameStop had a bit of an unpleasant Christmas.

Braydon Giles, a 5-year-old, who looked forward to having some awesome gifts, did not feel too Christmasy with his gift, a Nintendo 3DS. The 5-year-old was shocked to find pornographic images in his holiday gift.

Channel 9 News reported the incident, and as you can see in the video, the boy promptly went to his brother, Bryton, seeking his help in removing those weird pictures. “He said that he didn’t take these pictures so I went over to these pictures and I see two people in a bed. I told my dad and I said dad this has porn on it and he got up and went right to the phone,” Bryton told 9 News.

Mark Giles was was extremely upset in finding such obscene images, and was disappointed at GameStop in selling him such a device. The Nintendo 3DS was a refurbished device, meaning that the gadget, which was previously owned by someone else, was wiped cleaned and shiny in all aspects before selling to another customer.

Apparently, this particular Nintendo 3DS didn’t get enough of a cleansing. The Colorado GameStop immediately admitted to the mistake, and reported that the images were stored by the previous owner.

The company issued a statement, saying they have their customers’ best interests in heart:

“GameStop is currently researching this situation. We have a rigorous quality control process in place to ensure that existing content is removed from all devices before they are re-sold. Out of millions of transactions each year, ones like this happen very rarely. Our number one priority is to make this right for our customer.”

But even though the company admitted to the mistake, Mark Giles’s disappointment hasn’t abated. He says that the damage is done and that those images won’t be erased from his son’s memory too fast.

“You can’t un-see this. He’s five years old. Maybe when he’s 18 or 20 maybe he won’t know anything about it but he’s not going to forget about it tomorrow,” he told 9 News.

Mistakes like these are rare, and sometimes they leave a deep scar. GameStop would probably inquire into how those images were not spotted before during refurbishment.
