Samsung Display to Showcase Flexible Screens at CES 2013

December 20, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The Consumer Electronics Show in 2013 will be the venue for Samsung to showcase their flexible displays. The electronics giant had earlier announced that they would be launching a flexible display sometime during 2012, and although we are a couple of weeks past what they said, the company is sure on track.

The bendable screens will be unveiled by Samsung Display, a spin-off from Samsung Electronics, and they could we be the next feature on new smartphones and tablets, and even television sets. They will be putting for show a .5-inch flexible screen that could be fitted on a smartphone.

The display has a resolution of 1,280×720-pixel in HD, with a pixel density of 267. The company team will also be showing a television-size 55-inch screen.

According to Samsung Display, having a flexible display will allow for more freedom in designing a device. Presently, the flexible screens can bend without rending, but they don’t roll up yet.

Samsung has been teasing flexible screens for quite some time. We saw demo versions of the screens two years back, in CES 2011, when the company displayed them first and talked about its capabilities.

Then, this year during the CES 2012, Samsung again announced that a prototype of their bendable screens will be showcased during the CES 2013. And as we are nearing the event, it would be pretty exciting to watch them close at hand.
