Dell Branded Smartphone Not Coming Up

December 14, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Have you been waiting to get your hands on smartphones created by Dell? Well, if you were, we are sorry to let you know that Dell won’t be making one in the near future.

Rumors have been proved correct, as they have been confirmed right via reports surrounding Dell’s plan not to get into smartphone business.

Adding to the clarification, Jeff Clarke, the Vice Chairman and President of Dell’s Global Operations and End User Computing Solutions mentioned at the Dell World Conference held in Texas that Dell has no plans of building smartphones in the near future.

But then, Dell seems to have an alternate plan to please their customers –  it will focus more on the PC industry and bring about more innovations in that area.

Dell believes that PCs are still the preferred devices among many professionals and they would  develop productivity and content creation functionalities in them.

Dell enthusiasts were really looking forward to a smartphone, but Clarke has now put the anticipation on the backburner.

He has also been quoted as saying that the bring-your-own-device business policy and cloud computing have created a new trend “blurring of the distinction between personal devices and professional devices”,  which will create more opportunities for the company  in end user computing space and that hopefully we can use this for more innovation.

So at the end of the day, it’s not bad news as Dell has promised us they are going to take up serious tasks that would lead to innovation in PCs and laptops. But, if you were looking forward to  a smartphone, the Dell menu is not going to have it.
