Office 2013 for iOS and Android Next Year

October 16, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Petr Bobek, Microsoft’s Product Manager, has confirmed that the software maker is planning to release native iOS and Android versions of Office 2013 next year.

Bobek has been quoted at a Czech arm event as saying that native apps will be made available from next March. Extending conventional Microsoft apps to other domains did arise so many questions but in short, the deed from MS is good and it does count.

However, Microsoft spokesman Frank X Shaw has said on Twitter that the information shared by Microsoft’s Czech subsidiary was wrong.

As for now, Microsoft only provides a mobile version of Office for Windows Phone devices. It would be interesting to see how Microsoft is able to keep the Office advantage to Windows Phone, while still bringing them to Android and iOS.

The official release date might still be behind the curtains, but the March 2013 schedule could turn out to be correct. It was just that MS wanted it to be a surprise and they didn’t want the dates to get out before the official statement.

Microsoft also reiterated that a preview version of Office will be available on ARM-based Windows RT devices when Windows 8 launches on October 26. A final version for Windows RT devices is expected sometime between November and January.

In the meantime, more details of the Office 365 Home Premium are out. It looks like Office 365 Home Premium will let its users download and install Office 2013 on up to five PCs including apps such as Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word 2013.

Users will also get 60 minutes of Skype calling and an extra 20GB of SkyDrive storage. Office 365 Home Premium will cost $100 per year. There are also options that will enable users to purchase boxed versions of Office 2013, with Office Home and Student priced at $150.

Office 2013 Home and Student do not include Outlook, Publisher, and Access, or the ability to install Office on multiple devices.
