Apple iPhones already have a reputation for being costlier than all its competing models from other companies.
But to everyone’s amazement iPhone 5 now has the official record of costing its users an amount much higher than anyone was expecting until its launch.
It is estimated that all the iPhone 5 buyers will need to spent anywhere between $2,118 and $5,409 over the coming 2 years to buy and maintain their devices. And, the amount, of course, doesn’t include the amount for apps, games, cases and accessories.
Pricing of this device has started at $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for a 64GB as long as a the user sign a new, two-year contract. Off contract, a 16GB model will cost an amount of $649, the 32GB model $749, and $849 for the 64GB.
Going through the cheapest list of essential accessories we can find that the total cost will come about to $369. Here is how:
iPhone 5: $199 (base 16GB unit with contract)
Car Charger: $10
Stereo Dock: $100
Minimum Total Cost: $369
Of course, this is just the minimum cost. Adding these necessary accessories to an off-contract iPhone 5 could end up costing the user over $1,000.
The terrible aspect is that the iPhone 4S users who have bought all the accessories for their earlier iPhone can’t use them with the iPhone 5 and this can make their round for money a bit disappointing. There is an adapter that is said to solve the compatibility problem, but we will have to see if it really works in all combinations of peripherals, like other docking stations.
