There were many skeptics for the idea of a phablet – a hybrid of a tablet and smartphone. However, the success of the Galaxy Note has eliminated the doubts and proved it clear that the tablet smartphone hybrids are here to stay.

Many rivals have already jumped onto the phablet bandwagon. The latest leak suggests that HTC also plans to bring out a similar device which can compete with Galaxy Note.

A recent leak shows what is believed to be a device being developed by HTC to challenge Samsung Galaxy Note. The device indeed looks similar to Note in the picture, with a 5-inch display.

Earlier rumors had also suggested that HTC is planning to come up with a 5 incher. If the rumor mills are to be believed, the company may unveil the device this September or October.

Though HTC is yet to make any official statement, the device reportedly features a 1794 x 1080 HD display and a 1.5 GHz processor.

However, do not expect the device will come out with brand new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It features only the previous iteration of the platform – Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Considering HTC’s ability to bring out devices with excellent displays, we have to wait and see if the new device from HTC will make a tough challenge to the original Galaxy Note or the 5.5 incher second generation Note 2.
