The most speculated phone of the year can undoubtedly be said as the upcoming iPhone 5. Pumping up expectations, images of this spectacular device have surfaced.
The images show off its front display that has been enhanced to 4 inches in size and also a mini dock connector. Will this be the Toyota Prius of the mobile phone industry this year? We have to wait for that question to be answered.
The photos also give out a clearer idea of the next iPhone’s look when viewed from the bottom, with the significantly smaller dock connector making room for the headphone jack and a larger speaker grille along the bottom edge of the device.
Despite having a larger screen size, the new iPhone could be slimmer than the iPhone 4S and will sport a reconfigured charging dock with fewer pins.
The enlarged screen is expected to be a major feature on the new iPhone, helping Apple to compete better with other smartphones with larger screens, like the Google Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S III, which sports a 4.8-inch display and has proven to be a big hit with consumers.
Other features such as 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and near-field communication (NFC) capabilities and a more powerful battery are expected to find their way onto the iPhone 5.
September 12th is still expected to be the phone’s launch date and as the date is nearing, the company has taken the step of offering to match retailer discounts on older models, including the iPhone 4 and 4S handsets.
Upon customer request, Apple will offer a $49.01 discount on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 models, which would bring the price to $349.99, $249.99 or $149.99 for the iPhone 4S, and $49.99 for the iPhone 4.
The company’s decision on discounts follows Sprint’s announcement earlier this week that it was slashing the price of its iPhones by $50.
