LA Restaurant Offers 5% Discount to Customers to Keep their Phones Away

What is the best way to have some happy eating out time with your family or friends? Selecting the best restaurant in the city is one, but switching off your mobile is another.

Often your family members will be irritated or even felt ignored when you keep on talking on the phone or keep feeding the Twitter or Facebook even at the restaurant.

Not to mention other people’s protest against the one sided smartphone chat sessions.

This is the reason why the Eva Restaurant in Beverly Boulevard at Los Angeles offers a 5 percent discount on the check total to customers who agree to hand over their mobile phones to the staff when they enter the restaurant.

That may be a difficult choice for many but the management at the restaurant thinks that a happy time with family at the restaurant is indeed worthy of a phone-free time.

The question is whether to give up the live Twitter feeds or to actually have a phone-free time by getting a 5 percent discount in your bill.

The restaurant management insist that the offer is not to avoid people disturbing other guests with loud talking over the phone, but to make people feel more like having a relaxed time.

Management claims that almost half of the customers decide to hand over their phones and take the offer.

“It’s about two people sitting together and just connecting, without the distraction of a phone, and we’re trying to create an ambiance where you come in and really enjoy the experience and the food and the company”, says owner and Chef Mark Gold of Eva Restaurant.
