Apple Gets New Users Despite the Imminent iPhone Launch

Analyst firm Comscore had revealed that Apple and its iPhone products were able to make gains even when the world is waiting for the upcoming iPhone 5 to hit the shelves.

The number of iPhone users in the country has increased by 1.4 percent to hit a 15.4 percent mark during the second quarter of the year. At the same time, iOS users also shot up by 1.7 percent to 32.4 percent.

This is very significant considering the fact that the upcoming iPhone 5 is forcing many potential iPhone customers to delay their purchase in anticipation of a better phone.

However, Android still enjoys the title of the most popular smartphone platform with a total of 51.6 percent customers using this open source platform from Google. It showed a growth of 0.6 percent during the period. RIM has suffered a severe setback as it fell by 1.6 percent to reach a 10.7 percent mark in the same period.

Samsung and LG again topped the list of mobile phone vendors, according to Comscore data. Samsung had a 25.6 percent share while LG enjoyed 18.8 percent share.

The report also points out that the smartphone users are increasingly using their gadgets for gaming and for keeping in touch with the friends over social networks.

The number of people who used their phones to access social network or a blog jumped 1 percent to 36.9 percent during the period, shows Comscore data.
