No Plans to Make Facebook Phone; So Says Zuckerberg

July 30, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

You must have come across a bunch of stories about the imminent launch of Facebook smartphone. But it looks like there won’t be such a thing as Facebook phone, at least not anytime soon.

During his company’s first earning call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company has no intentions of becoming a hardware manufacturer anytime soon and that it wouldn’t really make much sense for Facebook to come up with its own smartphone device.

Analysts had claimed that it was just a matter of time before something like Facebook phone hits the market.

But the company does not have the capacity to manufacture hardware, so it’s possible that Facebook focuses on software while leaving hardware to other manufacturers. HTC, perhaps. Remember Facebook’s earlier unsuccessful attempts like Salsa and Cha-Cha phones?

But the rumors will remain rumors, as Zuckerberg says the company is focused on deeper integration with existing mobile platforms, such as the built-in sharing tools announced for iOS 6.

Yes we know, Facebook phone sounds more interesting than OS integration.
