Nexus 7, which is touted as the Kindle Fire killer, is out. Now it is Amazon’s turn to show off its counter-weapon. Reports indicate that the online retailer-cum-gadget maker is prepping two potential counter weapons –  a 10-inch tablet and a revamped version of the 7-inch Kindle Fire.

There have been rumors about Amazon designing its own 10-inch tablet. Emerging reports confirm these talks and claim that the device might be launched in the coming months.

The news about the new Kindle Fire is refreshing since it suggests that it will be better than the original one in the quality of the materials used.

According to sources close to Amazon’s product plans, the new Fire will come out with metal casings instead of the plastic body of the current device.

Sources also claim that the new devices will have chrome-like rib on their back which will give a good visual appeal that adds contrast to the black matte finish. The speakers of the tablets also will be housed in this area.

Grapevine has it that the shape of the new tablets readied by Amazon resembles the original iPad except for the absence of buttons in the front. The devices reportedly carry along a microUSB port and an additional one which is rumored to be an HDMI out-port.
