Since the latest WWDC keynote address by Apple has given us a good glimpse on the nature and the features of the upcoming iOS 6 platform, the rumor mills have stepped up their speculating about the next gen iPhone.
Rumors were rife that the iPhone 5 will come with a new dock connector with only 19 pins unlike the current device which features a rectangular port of 30 pins. Though the rumor appeared earlier, some credible news sources have their own confirmation now, although Apple is yet to confirm anything.
Multiple sources who are close to Apple’s primary hardware manufacturing partners and upstream supply chain have confirmed that the new dock with just 19 pins is found in iPhone units under development.
Some other sources have got hold of sketches of the new device which show that the new dock is smaller and resembles a micro USB port in its size. When a 30 pin connector is downsized to a 19 pin one, the manufacturer will get more internal space to work with.
Sources close to Apple also claim that the trimmed down size of the port is a permanent change Apple wants to bring to its products. According to them, all future Apple devices will feature such half-sized ports.
Rumor gods also say that the phone will hit the world either in September or October.
