Vodafone UK To Put Booster Brolly at Music Concerts To Give Charging and Coverage To Users

June 15, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Readers who are subscribers of Vodafone UK, you may get a new unexpected gift from Vodafone in the form of a “booster brolly” just when you attend the next summer music fest. With its booster brolly, Vodafone hopes to give its users a place to charge their phone and enjoy better coverage while enjoying the music.

The brolly is designed by Kenneth Tong of University College London. The Vodafone UK umbrella which is meant for concert-goers looks just like a normal umbrella, but it has solar cells fitted on its top.

You can find them at the black stripes on the canopy of the umbrella on the picture.

The extra aluminum struts with the umbrella function as a high-gain antenna which will boost up the signal in the adjacent area. So it will be clearer to talk under the umbrella and nearby, since Vodafone claims that the brolly will make a “signal shower”.

It looks like the carrier is going to show off the booster umbrella on music concerts it sponsors. However, the company is yet to reveal any possible plans of mass production as well as its implementation in other public places.

However, there are chances that the placement of the brolly may restrict concert-goers view of the stage both with its shape and placement and with the folks who roam to charge and talk around these umbrellas.

However, we will have to wait and see whether the new gift from Vodafone will get popularity among its music conscious customers.
