China is the most populous country in the world. Apparently, now it makes the country with the most number of cell phone users.

According to official estimates released by Chinese government, the country now houses more than 1 billion mobile phone users.

Despite its craze for cutting edge gadgetry and technologies, US still makes a small rival to China with just 330 million cell phone users as per the figures available with the CTIA wireless association.

China got the crown of the top country in number of mobile phone users as the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently released a report with detailed figures of in-country users of mobile phone.

The country was able grab that title as it witnessed a rapid growth in the number of cell phone users during the first quarter of 2012 when a whooping 43 million new device users were added to the existing population of cell phone users.

Though feature phones users constitute a big majority, Smartphone devices are also gaining rapid popularity in the country, Android being the most popular platform.

The figures released by a Beijing-based research analytics firm show that Android grabbed 68 percent of the market by the end of 2011. The sudden growth is worth a note since it had only 33 percent market share three quarters before.

Apple too is making benefits from China with 16 percent ($4.5 billion) of company’s total annual earning coming from the country. That is more than what it makes from the whole European Union.
