Nokia 808 PureView 41 MP Camera Smartphone in Russia and India This Month

Amidst reports that Nokia is struggling hard to keep the sinking ship afloat by shedding its luxury phone making subsidiary Vertu, a new rig from the Finnish phone maker has now been announced as reaching the markets in May.

The new device is worth noting at this point because; it is the much hyped Nokia 808 PureView aka a smartphone with a massive camera. Or call it a massive camera with an built-in smartphone?

Both ways, it will be interesting to see if something like PureView will help Nokia improve its market situation.

As you know, Nokia 808 PureView brings along a 41 mega pixel camera which boasts about its Carl Zeiss optics which can fetch better photos (in fact, bigger photos in resolution) than any other existing mobile cams or, for that matter, any consumer cameras out there.

Nokia 808 PureView will debut its market show in Russia and India this month. In a way Nokia 808 PureView is a mix up of ironies. It is a Smartphone with a massive cam and not otherwise.

So it will be interesting to see whether 808 PureView will get any real customer attention than that of a collectible item or curios. We don’t really understand how a smartphone with such a massive camera will attract folks who expect a neat smartphone.

The next irony is that the rig runs on Symbian platform which has proved to be a failing platform and Nokia is on its way to dump it.

It is not clear that how long Symbian will survive in a gadget world which is turning in to three names – iOs, Android and Windows Phone. However, if anybody is planning to pick this rig, let us know it here.
