Vonage Mobile Posts One Million Downloads Since February Launch

April 19, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

One million is no mean number. Ask Vonage, and they will tell you why. The Vonage Mobile app launched in February this year has surpassed one million downloads already. Available for iPhone and Android, people have been using the app to make free calls and send free texts over Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G.

What’s equally significant is the fact that you will be able to call those who do not yet have the app. For this, Vonage Mobile has been offering ultra-low cost international calling with rates that are on an average 70 percent less than what the prominent carriers offer. The cost, for the record, is also 30 percent less than the cost you incur while using Skype.

The app downloads separately, although the company has also recorded an additional 500,000 customers for their Extensions product, which is said to be pushing up the benefits of the company’s service to any other phone, including mobile, for no additional cost.

With more than 15 per cent of Vonage’s international calling minutes originating from mobile handhelds, the growth registered may be seen as huge. Prior to the launch of these two mobile products, the subscriber base was not a number to be celebrated.  The new enhancements are expected to take the company to a much higher level in the mobile communication arena.

We hear the company is now injecting more enhancements into their Mobile app so that it provides added ease of use and performance. Besides, it is likely that you would get to play with additional features such as MMS, Bluetooth capabilities and a low-cost international roaming capability in the coming months.

Stay tuned. In case you haven’t as yet laid your hands on Vonage Mobile, get it here, here or here .
