Seriously, the world of Dishonored looks like a horrible place to live. Civilians are infected by some sort of deadly disease, the authority figures are ruthless and kill you for no real reason, and there are electric fences that will obliterate your body if you attempt to run through it. All of this was just on one street. I can’t imaging how the rest of the city is doing. The common folk of Bethesda’s and Arkane Studio’s upcoming title have it bad but our protagonist, Corvo Atano, is in the the lead. He was once a trusted guard of the Empress but when she was murdered, he was accused of the crime that he did not commit.
Sent to rot away in jail, he’s approached by some unknown figure who knows the truth about the murder. This mysterious person then grants Corvo supernatural powers and sets him loose to seek revenge on those who did this to him. Of course, you can assume that the shadowed figure has other hidden motives that will be revealed later.
In the trailer below, we get our first real glimpse Dishonored’s corrupt and tattered world and obviously, it’s not pleasant. Though our assassin is prepared to take on this world thanks to some of his powers and incredible agility. Our protagonist move through the city in what looks like a combination of Mirrors Edge acrobatics and Assassin’s Creed, which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion.
A couple of Corvo’s varied powers are showcased here too. You can freeze time, break down barriers with a force push, and there even seems to be some sort of gravity pull that will launch your character into the direction your facing.
Remember the soldier’s on stilts known as “tall boys”? They’re going to be a pain in the ass especially with their explosive arrows. These guys won’t be pushovers at all.
