Sony Xperia P and U Add to Xperia NEXT Party; Head for Middle and Lower Market Segments

It looks like Sony is hatching a new marketing plan in line with the launching frequency and nature of their new products to reap a harvest in the market. That is what we felt from the devices they have launched at the Mobile World Congress here in Barcelona.

Sony has introduced two new phones in their Xperia NEXT line up. Xperia P and U are indeed eye-catchy and are part of the series of products starting from Xperia S, which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier.

Now, Sony has a range of products with Xperia S at the high-end and P and U coming down to the lower segments of the market.

Xperia P is slightly smaller than Xperia S and packs a 4 inch display. Its White Magic technology offers you a hassle-free display even in direct sunlight. The 8-megapixel cam packed with the device helps taking stills as well as recording 720p HD videos. The low-priced bro Xperia U is the smallest of the lot and has a 3.5-inch display and a 1 GHz processor.

After struggling a lot in the phone market with a partnership with Ericsson, this MWC is the debut event for Sony as a single entity into the smartphone market. At this juncture, they seem not to love killer devices. Instead, it looks like they prefer spreading across the market with a choice for all price segments. Xperia P and U are part of that plan, we feel.

So what they are planning to do is to leverage the chances of these new devices with a massive promotional activity. However, the market has the toughest competition in all segments.

What we feel is that miracles should happen for these dual core phones despite an outdated Android 2.3 platform. We find their performance in the marketplace going up just because of a massive promotional budget. Now, what do you think?
