BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Set for Big Day on February 21

The next generation operating system for the Blackberry PlayBook tablet, along with RIM’s hope to make it to the good news once again, will reportedly tip up on February 21.

If you remember, RIM had earlier confirmed that the OS will be announced this month. But then an exact date was not spelt out.

Best Buy Canada is pushing out a weekly flyer that will be advertising the BlackBerry PlayBook’s price cut and the pending OS 2.0 update. The flyer goes into effect today for a week’s time.

The new version of the OS will bring along some much needed features to the tablet, including native email, contacts and calendar.

It will also be able to run ported Android apps via Runtime. And the ability to control your PlayBook via your Blackberry smartphone with touchscreen, trackpad and keyboard over Bluetooth will come along, in the form of BlackBerry Bridge 2.0

Developers also stand a chance to win a free tablet from RIM, for a successful submission of an app to the Blackberry App World. The offer has been extended until March 2.

Playbook owners likely will be notified via Twitter and Facebook when the software becomes available. Make sure you check for updates on February 21st.
