Remember the cheapest laptop from Apple which came with a slogan ‘the notebook for everyone, just $999’? It was first introduced in May 2006 and now the inevitable has come across the life of the white plastic MacBook too.
After all, machines too die like humans (or get killed by the mother company). Apple has officially killed the budget notebook, in a bid to channel the market more towards the MacBook Air.
Though the device was cut off from public buyers from last July onwards, it was still available for schools. However, now the company has informed the resellers of MacBook that they have officially ended the distribution of the machine to educational institutions, bringing an official End of Life of the product.
However, as many of you are aware, Apple had introduced MacBook Air, an 11 inch display notebook the same day when it cut off the MacBook from the public in last July. It too comes for the same price tag of $999.
Actually, according to observers, Apple has directed the manufacturing partners to stop producing MacBook machine much earlier itself. However, they have been keeping the machine live by selling the units of the last batch manufactured. Since they have in all likelihood reached the end of the last batch, the machine is now officially dead.
A device reaching its End of Life officially means, the remaining pieces out there have turned out to be rare collectibles and antique pieces in a matter of years. However, the killing of the cheapest notebook from the Cupertino giant is not expected to make notable changes in the sales figures of other products. For the time being, let us pray for the soul of MacBook. RIP White MacBook.
