Call this Poor Taste; Ad Shows Steve Jobs Picking Taiwan Slate over iPad [Video]

February 3, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Ads of companies making digs at competitors are fun to watch. But there should be some sense in that. Imagine an ad spot which says some Taiwanese tablet is better than the iconic iPad.

Or worse, what if Steve Jobs himself chooses another Android tablet over the Apple tablet? Horrible, right?

This has actually happened, the ad that is. Here, Taiwanese manufacturer Action Electronics portrays the late Steve Jobs as an angelic Asian character who, upon being set free from the confines of his former title, is finally able to pick an Android tablet, the Action Pad, over his very own iPad.

The ad itself is, well, silly. Here is what the Action Electronics spokeswoman said to defend the ad: “Steve Jobs always promoted things that were good for people, Apple products, so his image can also promote other things that are good.” We do not get the point; of the ad and the statement.

There should be some kind of rule book on how to avoid making perfectly stupid advertisements/mistakes, just for the creative minds behind this kind of nonsense. What do you say?
