Apple Might Celebrate Best Holiday Quarter Ever, Probably

January 13, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Apple might have the best holiday quarter ever. Going by what UBS analyst Maynard Um found on new data from one of Apple’s suppliers – Multi-Fineline Electronix, the numbers that Cupertino will be celebrating with, talk much about a gala quarter.

We have here for you what Um scribbled in his research note. Multi-Fineline Electronix (MFLX), which is one of the flexible printed circuit board suppliers for some of Apple’s products including iPhone & iPad, reported that better than expected preliminary 1Q revenues of $239mn v. Street of $215 and it expects less of a seasonal decline than normal for next quarter.

MFLX expects to exceed the high end of their guidance this quarter as supply chain shortages from Thailand improved throughout the quarter, and as they saw increase in shipments from its largest key customer, which the UBS analyst believes to be Apple.

MFLX saw weakness last quarter partly from a later iPhone 4S launch. So, strong results and a better-than-seasonal outlook for the next quarter may indicate underlying demand strength for iPhone and the iPad.

These results follow better than expected iPhone shipments from Verizon last week, iPhone strength from AT&T last month, Cirrus Logic (which provide analog chips for iPad & iPod) with better results this week, and strong December results from Dialog Semi, Catcher (Mac metal casing), TPK (iPad 2 touch panel orders), and Hon Hai- stronger iPhone/iPad orders.

Apple is confident as well. And, the customers are happy.
