Toshiba Excite Thinnest 10-inch Tablet Shown; to be Available by Mid-Q1

January 10, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

You did not know what Toshiba had in mind while they were introducing one of the thickest and heaviest tablets in a market ruled by the super thin iPad. Well, there’s Galaxy Tab and the Transformer Prime as well.

Anyway, Toshiba has thought again and has now come up with a slim, light, and durable tablet set to pack the Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new Toshiba Excite features a 3 inch (7.7mm) profile and a 10.1 inch AutoBrite Multi-touch Gorilla Glass Display, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

It has a 2 megapixel front facing camera as well as a 5 megapixel HD camera with LED backlight. There is the microSD card slot expandable up to 32 GB, plus USB ports. It weighs just about 1.2lbs and will come packing the Android 4.0 platform.

Excite X10 pushes the boundaries of what a thin and light tablet is capable of, delivering elegant styling without sacrificing features or durability, said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division.

Toshiba sees the tablet as “a key device in a connected home ecosystem, so delivering not just a thin and light design, but one that also incorporates built-in ports, is a step toward making the connected home a reality”.

The Toshiba Excite will be made available somewhere in the mid Q1 timeframe. And pricing will be at $529 for 16GB model, $599 for 32GB model.

Does the price tag pull back the excitement? Let us know.
