The Top 8 Tech Trends of 2011

December 23, 2011, By Alex Badinici

As we head into the home stretch, it’s time to take a look at the top tech trends of the 2011.

There were so many this year that it’s almost difficult to narrow it down, but some trends completely blew up. In fact, group buying along the lines of Groupon and LivingSocial exploded so much that it’s been said more than once that the market is now oversaturated. There are so many sites, in fact, that new sites are cropping up to help people manage their daily deals, such as Frugalo.

And in gadgets, it was the year of the tablet. The iPad reigned supreme, but the Kindle Fire and Galaxy S II came on strong and more than 10 percent of the adult population in the U.S. owns a tablet already. The tablet’s role in mobile commerce is expected to increase to about 10 percent of all e-commerce by 2016, according to this infographic from GPlus.

So I guess you’ll have to check back in about a year to see if the big data boom, Internet TV and mobile commerce’s rise are indeed in the top trends of 2012.
