MythBusters Cannonball Stunt Flies Off Track

December 9, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

An experiment gone awry. The MythBusters got busted by a canon ball.

The hosts, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, of the Discovery channel program “MythBusters” were filming at an Alameda County Sheriff’s Department bomb range in Dublin, California. The crew was experimenting to find out how effective a canon is at firing various objects.

Seems like they are very effective. And the crew agrees too after the canon ball went off course.

The cannonball was intended to go through a few water-filled cans and a concrete wall. But contrary to the expectations, the cannonball went through the wall and soared off into the air after bouncing on the ground.

Its path could be traced through the front door of a house, through a bedroom, tearing out through the back of the house before striking a minivan.

The experiment took a [potentially] deadly turn after 4.00pm and after firing, the cannonball made it 700 yards before smashing into the house. That was a bit too much than what Jamie and Adam hoped for. [Editors note: miraculously, no one was hurt.]

The residents of the locale are familiar with the crew’s experiment and the sounds and explosions occurring as a result of the MythBusters’ experiments. But they weren’t prepared for a cannonball to come zooming into their homes.

Fortunately, other than property damage, no person was hurt in any way. Adam Savage has said that the residents affected by the incident would be compensated for the property damage.
