Motorola Droid Xyboard Tablets Round the Corner

December 9, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It is just a few hours away for Verizon Xyboard tablets to hit the market. As per the latest information we have, the newest entries from Verizon Wireless including the Droid Xyboard 8.2 and Droid Xyboard 10.1, each offered with LTE mobile broadband, will hit stores within a couple of hours.

The physical pattern of the slates almost resembles that of the previous versions, except that the contours are more pleasing with a seducing visual aspect. Unlike the previous thick and heavy Xoom 2, the new model is sleeker and faster.

The Droid Xyboard 10.1 has, as the name indicates, a 10.1-inch display, while the Droid Xyboard 8.2 has an 8.2-inch display. When stores in suburban and downtown Los Angeles were asked about the products on Thursday night, they said that “live units” will be en route on Friday and that units will be made available for purchase on the same day.

I guess you all remember the salient specs of the new tablets. If not, here they are to brush up your memory.

The slates are powered by dual-core 1.2-GHz processors and pack 1GB of RAM. They ride on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, which will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich next year.

The tablets have an advanced In-Plane Switching (IPS) displays and can share 4G LTE connection with up to eight Wi-Fi devices. Those interested in photography can click away with the 5-megapixel rear-facing HD cameras equipped with zoom and LED flash. The tablets duplicate as a universal remote for TVs, Blu-ray players and Digital Video Recorders (DVR). Now that’s true a multitasking slate.

The Droid Xyboard 10.1 will come in three versions: 16GB for $529.99, 32GB for $629.99 and 64GB for $729.99. On the other hand, the Droid Xyboard 8.2 will come in two versions: 16GB for $429.99 and 32GB for $529.99.

If you are going to grab them, then do let us know.
