Connected devices are pretty cool, huh? The world thinks so. And, Apple is in the fore as well.

Mobile ad network JiWire has released its latest Mobile Audience Insights Report, which says that Apple iOS devices are the three most used mobile devices in the United Sates and the United Kingdom in Q 2011.

The study conducted by JiWire found that Apple’s iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch were the three most widely used connected devices in both the markets, with Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform – yeah, it’s a platform while the others are listed as devices – taking the fourth spot in both regions.

Tablet usage grew to 37 percent in the third quarter, up from 32 percent in the second, and smartphone usage grew from 58 percent to 62 percent over the same period. Laptop usage came down from 90 percent to 79 percent.

There is more. The study also found out that Apple iPhone as well as the iPod Touch lost usage share sequentially in both the markets. But, Apple has a 42 percent share in the US and a 51 percent share in the UK, and the iPad gained 3 percent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter in the US, and it gained more than 2 percent in the UK.

Also, BlackBerry Torch was the most widely used non-Apple device in the U.S in the last quarter the according to the study, while the HTC Desire S bagged the title in the UK.

Among those surveyed by JiWire, 25 percent customers intend to purchase a new smartphone in the next six months, 24 percent intend to buy a tablet within six months and 16 percent plan to purchase a laptop.
