LA Auto Show Dazzled with Winner Cars and Doghouses

November 21, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The LA Auto show was a feast for the eyes of vehicle enthusiasts. At Los Angeles, today, California Clean Cars Campaign and the California Business Alliance for a Green Economy, together, surveyed the field of vehicles at the 2011 LA Auto Show.

Based on the innovative use of technology, vehicle emissions, and fuel efficiency of vehicles, they selected the “Best of Show” and “Worst of Show.” The California Clean Cars Campaign aims at bringing the next generation of advanced, clean cars into the driveways of Californian families.

It will help reduce user’s dependence on oil, save consumers money, reduce air pollution, and support new jobs and investment in the state’s clean energy economy. The California Business Alliance for a Green Economy is a network of 1,200 businesses and business associations around the state who believe that a healthy and prosperous future for California depends on a clean, green and efficient economy.

Blue Ribbon winners and Runners Up are those cars which reduce pollution from passenger vehicles, thus encouraging vehicle technology innovation and driving the creation of alternative fuel vehicle infrastructure. However, the ‘In the Doghouse’ vehicles are those that represent the poorly engineered ones.

In the working truck breed, Ford F-150 with EcoBoostTM and Toyota Tacoma won the Blue Ribbon and Runners Up respectively. Ford F-150 SVT Raptor was awarded the Doghouse in that category.

In the sports car wing, it was Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Coupe which won the Blue Ribbon and Mazda3 SKYACTIV won the runner up. The Doghouse was claimed by a Chevy Camaro ZL1.

Also announced were the details of Non-Sporting/Midsize car (Blue Ribbon: Chevy Malibu Eco; Runner Up: Toyota Prius Plug-in; Doghouse: Cadillac CTS-V), Herding/ SUV/Minivan (Blue Ribbon: Ford C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid; Runner Up: Toyota Prius V; Doghouse: Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid) and Terrier/ Compact/ Subcompact car (Blue Ribbon: Hyundai Elantra; Runner Up: BMW i3; Doghouse: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution).

Some of these are already available in the market. Others are in their production houses and should be seeing the sunshine in less than 2 years time.

Do you plan to own any of these? Do let us know.
