7 Million Skyrim Launch Units Shipped, Expects $450 Million In Profit

November 16, 2011, By Christian Davis

This morning Bethesda announced that their massive open world title, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has shipped (not sold) 7 million copies across the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. As a result of this the publisher is expecting to rake in at least $450 million in global retail sales. Numbers like that aren’t too surprising especially when the game received 50 perfect review scores spread across all the major videogame publications. Our review was overwhelmingly positive as well and it deserves every good word said about the game. It is that good and definitely something everyone needs to pick up and play for an endless amount of hours.

Bethesda is claiming that more than 50% of those titles were sold within the first 48 hours and many stores across the United States, Austrailia, and Europe are already asking for more copies of the game since they’ve run out. Not too shabby, Bethesda.

“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media.  “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”
