HP to Decide Fate of webOS in Three to Four Weeks

November 9, 2011, By Leo Xavier

Earlier, when HP announced their plans to launch Windows 8 tablets in 2012, the company also revealed that they will make a decision about the long-term future of WebOS within HP in the near future. But now, it appears like the company hasn’t yet decided what to do with the platform.

According to available info, which comes to us courtesy of The Verge, CEO Meg Whitman has announced to a room full of employees from Palm and HP that they do not know what to do with webOS.

This is definitely frustrating news for all of the webOS fans who just want to know what’s going to happen to it.

As you already know, the company is hoping to do better on the tablet market by working with Windows 8.

And last week they announced their latest tablet, the Windows 7-running HP Slate 2. But there were no hints regarding webOS.

Now, Whitman is saying that “It’s really important to [her] to make the right decision, not the fast decision”.

Whitman also said that a decision on the matter will be made sometime in the next three to four weeks. She added, “If HP decides to do this [to keep webOS], we’re going to do it in a very significant way over a multi-year period”.

We will keep you updated on the matter. So stay tuned.
